Essex Coalition of Disabled People
An organisation run by and for disabled people, campaigning for social justice
About us…
ECDP is an organisation run by and for disabled people in Essex. The organisation’s main aim is to enhance the quality of the lives of disabled people in Essex with physical and sensory impairments, learning difficulties and/or mental health system survivors.
We work in accordance with the principles of the Worldwide Independent Living Movementand to the Social Model of Disability. Our aim is to increase opportunities for disabled people, whether these are within the working environment, or with social and leisure opportunities.
Our role necessitates working frequently as a campaigning pressure group both nationally and at a local level. ECDP is therefore actively involved with the County’s decision makers including: Essex County Council; Local and Unitary Councils; Primary Care Trusts; Private Companies; other Voluntary and Community Sector organisations and specific disabled people’s networks; particularly around the issues of joint interest.
ECDP is supported by:
- Essex County Council
- Southend Borough Council
- Cambridgeshire County Council
- Camelot
- Children in Need
- Comic Relief
- National Centre for Inclusive Living
