Bespoke Training

Back to Our Training

Essex Coalition of Disabled People provides Equality training, NOT Awareness training. The bullet points below demonstrate the reasons for this.

Disability Equality Training:

  • Promotes the use of the ‘social’ model of disability and is consistent with it.
  • Enables participants to pursue the consequences of the ‘social’ model.
  • Is run by disabled people only
  • Will not use ‘simulations’ in the training and will be able to explain why.
  • Is about changing attitudes and challenging misinformation about disabled people and/ or disability.
  • Takes a ‘rights’ based approach as opposed to a ‘charity’ model.

Our bespoke training will consist of an introduction to Disability Equality and the Disability Discrimination Act, and how it affects your organisation. Areas of interest may include:

  • The importance of a ‘rights based’ approach
  • Human Rights, Civil Rights and Entitlements
  • The Social Model vs. the Traditional Model thinking
  • Language, Media Images and Terminology
  • Real life barriers to practice – action planning
  • Independence and Independent Living
  • The Disability Discrimination Act 1995
  • Disability Equality Duty 2006
  • Personal Assistance
  • Direct Payments and Individual Budgets
  • Advocacy

We will provide bespoke training to your organisation, working with you to ensure that specific outcomes are met.
