These half day and one day sessions centre on the ethos of ECDP – Disability Equality, Rights and Independent Living.

Sessions available include:

  • Understanding Rights and Needs (one day session)

    Focusing on the rights of disabled people and needs led assessments, the session is designed to establish an understanding of how disabled people can access their rights in order to have their needs met. Topics of discussion will include Advocacy and Personal Assistance.

  • Disability Equality Essentials (half day session)

    Designed to provide a short introduction to the Disability Movement and Social Model theory, the day can be utilised by those new to the world of disability, or those needing to refresh previous learning. Elements of disability portrayal and language recommendations are also covered in the session.

  • Options for Independent Living (half day session)

    Exploring options for Independent Living, the session will centre on providing useful information about how Direct Payments and Individual Budgets can lead to independence. This session is particularly useful to those interested in receiving Direct Payments or wishing to find out more about the pilot of Individual Budgets.

  • Benefits (half day session)

    This day will give participants an overview of the benefits and tax credits system. Training provides an opportunity to discover eligibility criteria as well as practical information on how to claim. This session is useful for anyone in an advisory role or simply wishing to know more about the benefits system.

  • Protection of Vulnerable Adults (half day session)

  • The session will focus around staff working with vulnerable adults offering useful information and guidelines to assist them in their roles. Content will include explanations of types of abuse, the Department of Health document “No Secrets”, POVA procedures, as well as providing participants with useful contacts.

  • Inclusion – A Good Practice Approach (half day session)

    Designed for frontline staff working with disabled people, the day looks at good practice guidelines to inclusion. This day includes workshops and discussions geared around taking practical steps to ensure your organisation is fully accessible. Previous events have included guest speakers from a range of disability organisations including Mental Health, Learning Difficulties and Sensory.

  • An Introduction to Mental Health (half day session)

    Living with a hidden impairment, mental health service users often feel misunderstood. This session looks at what is good mental health and what is mental illness? and has been developed for those who work with mental health service users, and those that have an interest in mental health.
