In April 2007 ECDP was asked to  get involved with the new 'Experts by Experience' project by the National Centre of Inclusive Living (NCIL). As a result, ECDP is now the supporting organisation for the Eastern region and will be coordinating the work of 6 experts until March 2008.

The experts will be carrying out inspections in partnership with the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) who register and inspect social care services in England and make sure they are doing what they should. The Experts, the people who have experience of social care services, will be helping CSCI to change the way it inspects and provides information.

The main aims of the project are to:

  • Put people who use services first
  • Make social care services better
  • Eliminate poor working practices
  • Tell people what makes good social care
  • Ensure they uphold their own teachings

Frances Hasler, Head of User and Public Involvement CSCI:

“Working with people who use services has been vital to improving the way we inspect and provide public information. By involving people who use services directly in what we do, CSCI is able to get a richer picture of what matters when we carry out our inspections. We can make sure we are looking at the things that are going to make a real difference to people’s quality of life and supply information in formats that they need.”
