At ecdp, our vision is to enhance the everyday lives of disabled people in Essex and beyond, and this includes those affected by mental health conditions.
We attend a range of local events to challenge the stigma that still surrounds mental illness, and we encourage our members to share their stories of lived experience to show the positive side of mental health.
The 555 project
The ‘555’ project is an exciting piece of work to make the voice of Essex mental health services users heard by the people who commission the service. It’s run jointly by patient voice organisation Healthwatch Essex and ecdp.
World Mental Health Day, 10 October 2014
ecdp joined North Essex Partnership Foundation Trust to celebrate World Mental Health Day on 10 October 2014.
Lived experience is at the heart of what we do
"When companies learnt I had a mental health condition involving auditory hallucinations they often turned me away...
I was made aware of ecdp and their non-discriminatory policies, and have been a working member of the Insight Team ever since."
Mental Health Awareness Week 2014
Between 12 - 18 May 2014, ecdp supported Mental Health Awareness Week. This year's theme was Anxiety. Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health problems in the world.
Time to Talk Day, 06 February 2014
Time to Change, England's biggest mental health anti-stigma programme, run by the charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness, aimed to get more people talking about mental health than ever before with their 'Time to Talk Day' on Thursday 6 February.Time to Change’s latest advertising campaign aims to show that “It’s the little things which make a big difference” when it comes to mental health – such as having a cup of tea and a chat. And on Time to Talk Day they’re encouraging people to do just that.
We supported Time to Talk Day to show that mental health problems are common and having those conversations needn’t be as hard as people sometimes fear.
What did we do?
Our ecdp Ambassador, Robin, spoke out on Phoenix FM on 06 February about his own experiences of living with a mental health condition.
At ecdp HQ, our staff all got together for a cuppa and cake, to find out more about Time to Change.
