All about Right to Control
Between December 2010 and December 2013, Right to Control was piloted in Essex. This was one of seven areas across the country which piloted the initiative, known as Trailblazers.
The Right to Control initiative was designed to give disabled people more choice and control over the support they receive.
This included people who received:
- Access to work
- Adult social care
- Disabled facilities grant
- Independent living fund
- Housing related support
- Work choice
Those who were eligible for the Right to Control programme had the legal right to combine the support they received from six different sources and decide how best to spend the funding to meet their individual needs. For those who were eligible for support from more than one agency, relevant information was shared so that the service user didn't need to keep telling lots of agencies the same things.
