By Lesley Hawkins, ecdp Works participant, cycle 4
Having survived my training week at ecdp, which was geared up to prepare us for our work placements, I'm now in my work place at Great Dunmow.
My placement is with Essex Police. I am learning all about the business support unit. There is such diversity of sections within one area, hopefully I'll get to know a few of them. The business support unit deals with human resources, payroll and estates. The teams there are very supportive. There's lots to take in, and learn.
On Tuesday a group of five from ecdp spent time at Essex Police HQ in Chelmsford The HR department who have worked with ecdp were as exited as we were!
They are totally committed to making the program work and are looking forward to having our feedback. We had a tour of various sections within HQ. One of the highlights was the police museum, and a talk from the Deputy Chief Constable, Derek Benson. We heard a brief history of Essex police, and got a really good insight to how modern policing is done.
I would also like to thank Rachel and her team of mentors and guests who made our first week so enjoyable and challenging. Also to the great group of people I was working with. We even got the ecdp communications team to set up a Facebook group, so all of the participants on this cycle of ecdp Works could continue to support each other.
So far, so good!
