DPUN shut its doors but leave a lasting legacy to ecdp

On 14 August ecdp was honoured to receive a donation from the DPUN (Disabled Persons User Network). In the last couple of years key DPUN founders have passed away and a decision was made to formally close the organisation, donating the outstanding balance to ecdp.

Initially 20 members, DPUN grew steadily over the years gaining the confidence and respect of disabled people across Essex. Meeting every month it held open forums for disabled people keeping them up-to-date with the latest information on Personal Budgets, Direct Payments and other Payroll related updates. It invited Local Authorities to attend these forums enabling its members to feedback their lived experience.

ecdp receiving cheque from DPUN at ecdp HQDPUN had for a long time shared office space with ecdp, with both passionate in promoting the voice of disabled people.

Monica Butcher who presented the cheque to ecdp said ‘Our aim at DPUN was to encourage more disabled people to take up Direct Payments, giving them knowledge, and sharing this knowledge from disabled people to disabled people.’

Mike Adams, ecdp CEO commented ‘Thank you very much to our friends at DPUN, this money will be used to enhance the lives and voices of disabled people in Essex’

ecdp is exploring how best to use the funding on projects which will reflect the principles and values of DPUN and leave a real lasting legacy.
