CHAPS (Colchester Has Active Prostate Support) Charity, Men’s Health Day
Why have a Men’s Health Day?
UK men of working age die prematurely at one and a half times the rate for women from causes across the whole spectrum of diseases. Though the causes of these 60,000 deaths a year are well known, the reasons are less clear. Lack of awareness, difficulty accessing existing health services and lack of appropriately targeted services for men are important factors, particularly in areas of socio-economic deprivation.
By staging successful men’s health events in male-orientated venues such as football stadia, CHAPS can reach the right audience, raise awareness and provide tests for common male problems such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and prostate cancer.
Through the courtesy and support of Southend United FC, 127 men came to our first event last year. We had available Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm screening, Heart and Stroke risk assessment, Prostate Cancer and Skin Cancer screening. These proved very popular and led to early detection of a number of unsuspected conditions leading on to successful treatment, including 2 dangerous skin cancers.
Southend United Stadium, 10am–4pm, Monday 18 May 2015
If you would like to attend this year, you can come on a first come first served basis with registration commencing at 9am for the morning session or:
