The Independent Visitors Scheme (IVS)

The scheme aims to empower and support disabled people to become involved in activities within their local communities such as:

• Joining social/leisure groups
• Enrolling on college courses
• Doing voluntary or paid work

How can we help you to do this?

Link you with a trained volunteer who will support you to find out about and access activities you wish to become involved with

• Signpost you to an appropriate group or organisation
• Invite you to one of our training events or drop in coffee mornings where you can gain confidence and develop skills within a supportive environment

Who is the scheme for?

The scheme is for all disabled people aged 18 or above whether they have a physical or sensory impairment, learning difficulty or a mental health service user, living in Chelmsford, Maldon, Rayleigh, Castle Point, Braintree, Basildon, Harlow and Brentwood.

Could you be a volunteer?

• Are you friendly and a good listener?
• Are you interested in meeting people?
• Are you reliable and honest?
• Are you able to spare a few hours once a fortnight?

Anyone who wishes to volunteer will receive training and on-going support.
